How to get rid of head lice? I have tried Nix, and many lice removal medicated shampoos. Nothing works?

We have been battling with head lice this year. I have tried the medicated lice removal shampoos, like Nix. I have tried mayonaise, peanut butter, tea tree oil, vinegar, etc. They go away but come back. I always am treating them. This time I cant get rid of them. I am thinking I am going go have to home school my kids. I just cant get rid of them. I vaccuum daily, wash and dry blankets daily, all stuffed animals are bagged and put away for 2 weeks at a time. Pillows are dried in the dryer for 20 minutes. I have lysoled my house. I have bought new combs. Dont ever use the same one more than once. I even have taken the kids to the doctor. I have treated my whole family over and over. I have even called the Health Dept. to see if their nurse would come out and help me see what I may be missing. I have cleaned the couch and chairs daily with the lice spray. Even the seat in our car. Help??? Any advice is appreciated? Do you know of anyone who has had this same problem? I am trying to get each nit out, but it is so difficult to see them at times. I have even tried highlighting my kids hair thinking that might help. It didnt. How to get rid of head lice? Shave the head.

Kerosene. How to get rid of head lice? I have tried Nix, and many lice removal medicated shampoos. Nothing works?
I have two things for you to use, first to get rid of them you have to use a dog shampoo... yeah I know it works.

Next.... to keep them from coming back you have to use Mane %26amp; Tail its a shampoo that has real coconut extract, it helps keeping them from coming back. Or look for shampoo with coconut extract....
I find Lavender essential oil or lavender vinegar is a good repellent; Once you've clean everything spray it around. My sister had some lice last year and they kept coming back so after treating her, I used to spray her bed and also her hair.
i despise nits! any chickens around? you can get lice from them. you seem to be doing all the right things - bagging up toys so the mongrels cant breathe.

it can drive kids nuts as well as you.

any of your kid's friends or yours got nits? they love clean hair.

this lady kept her kids home from school because the school didnt want to admit it was their problem. this school isnt allowed to touch the kids whereas this other school asked me if it was ok for them to check for nits - i said ooh yes!

good luck %26amp; i hope you get rid of the nasty little blighters once %26amp; for all
I used to suffer with head lice because a girl in my maths class had them. I kept getting them back but Full Marks head lice lotion works because it got rid of mine and find out who keeps giving them to you and get them sorted, the girl in my maths class never did anything about it but I moved seats in the class. I also got my hair cut and since then i haven't had any problems and my hair looked really nice short. Good luck, hopefully you get rid of the evil little things!! :(
You need to buy a nitty gritty comb for 拢10

and Full Marks for 拢10

put half the bottle of full marks on your head (dry)

and leave it on for 10 mins then use the nitty gritty comb and it will get rid of ALL the eggs! and then shampoo your hair twice to get rid of the grease from the full marks and then blow dry your hair and straighten it to get heat on it to burn anything that may be still living then use the Electric Nit Comb from Boots for 拢20 and it will shock the nits in your hair so the die instaly this comb will buzz when ever it goes over a nit :)
I can totally relate, and feel the frustration. It took me a whole year to de-lice and now I don't even try on used clothes for fear of another round. Hairspray really helped, as well as gel, but that is just your head, the lice can live on any surface, so I suggest you coat your skin after every bath or shower with vaseline and or lotion, spray your hair, and know that you have to switch the lice killer, since they adapt. Keep up the cleanliness, and wash with bleach or boiling temp. water to kill all bugs (including bedbugs) you might want to buy mattress covers because they can live there as well. Cold water does not kill bedbugs and lice eggs--it has to be scalding with a measure of bleach. All the hair brushes, combs and barrettes need to be discenfected after use, you can put a little vinigar or listerine with water in a glass for immersion when not in use.

The lice spray is toxic and can create absorption through the human skin. Switch to vinegar and water, spray often, and vaccum up the little bugs and eggs you can't see. I suggest you use old sheets on the couch and chairs so they can be more easily cleaned. The hairspray, conditioner and vaseline are great remedies.
Well, As A victim of headlice i lost my nits using this thing which kills them in 10 mins... its for children its 10 minute head lice removal which comes with a nit comb and i got it from boots so check there they defenitly have it. I Remembered the name its called : Full Marks i have left a link for how it looks ( the pic ) and that time igot it costed 10 pounds . it worked in 2 goes... once then 2 weeks after another and i lost them al yay

Seborrhea in my scalp is very itchy and embarrassing Ive try medicated creams and shampoos, it allways comes?

I have big white crusts in my scalp, please if someone knows how can I treat it.Seborrhea in my scalp is very itchy and embarrassing Ive try medicated creams and shampoos, it allways comes?
I had the same problem for years and you may not get the same results but I found that it was an internal problem for me, it was so simple. For me it was dehydration not drinking enough water and also I think good cholesterol helps such as found in fish oil I take Omega-3 soft-gels hope this is help full.

I have tried everything for head lice nothing seems to work, medicated shampoos.. vinegar, ??

any other suggesstions besided mayonnaise..I have tried everything for head lice nothing seems to work, medicated shampoos.. vinegar, ??
You must wash all bedding daily in hot water. You also must nit pick a few times a day. Be sure to treat all your carpets and furniture including your car with spray you may purchase in any drug store or grocery store. Do not wear clothes a second time without washing. After vacuuming dispose or clean out the vacuum bag right away. As long as you are diligent you should have it under control in about a week. Be sure to keep checking for nits even weeks after you feel they are gone.I have tried everything for head lice nothing seems to work, medicated shampoos.. vinegar, ??
having head lice really stinks, i had it for the first time last summer.medications worked ok for me, but not well enough. what really helped is the mayonaise! i know it sounds really gross - and im not gonna lie, it is really gross - but i was cured from lice the next day! some people put rosemary oil in their hair, but i've hears the smell is really bad and to strong.if you decide to do the mayonaise, here are some tips: some people say you should have it on for 8 hours while you sleep, but i dont see how any one could sleep with that, especially without your shower cap falling off. (you have to put a shower cap over it.) although it was really nasty in the morning, i reccomend that. also, wear a towel around your neck! i never knew there was that much oil in mayonaise! one last tip, you shouldnt shave your head, just cut off a couple of the damadged inches at the bottom and it really helps! nit picking helps, but it takes a lot of patience. dont lean on anything and wash everything you touch. you should check for lice at least once evry week the couple of weeks after you feel better, you might have the eggs still in your hair, and they can hatch soon. having someone else other then whoever has been checking you check you once, really helps.good luck!

  • Tenia Versicolor & Medicated Shampoos?

For Tenia Versicolor, is there any great difference between using Head %26amp; Shoulders Intensive and Selsun Blue?

People always say to use Selsun Blue, but they both have 1% Selenium Sulfide so I don't see the dif.

Either way the H%26amp;S hasn't helped so perhaps it's actually vitiligo, gah! But would be good to know whether it's worth giving Selsun Blue a go... thanksTenia Versicolor %26amp; Medicated Shampoos?
For tinea versicolor, the selenium sulfide prescribed is usually 2.5%, not 1% like what is in Selsun Blue and Head %26amp; Shoulders. The 2.5% variation is not available in the U.S. over-the-counter, so it's usually prescribed by a medical provider. I think Selsun Blue is thought to be ';preferred'; because it performed better than H%26amp;S when treating dandruff, not TV.

At any rate 70-80% of tinea versicolor is not able to be treated by topical shampoos. I don't know of any direct comparisons between selenium 1% and 2.5%, but I do know that doctors often tell patients to try the over-the-counter 1% variety if it's a mild case. Then if that doesn't work, we'll prescribe either the 2.5% cream or antifungal pills.

In my opinion, there's no reason you shouldn't give the Selsun Blue a try, however, it's very possible you'll have similar results. It might be worth trying that before getting yourself to a doctor to get the 2.5% (and a firm diagnosis?). Maybe at that time you could consider oral antifungal therapy (much more effective, faster, more convenient, but with possible side effects).

    Medicated shampoos?

Does anyone ever use medicated shampoos and notice a great deal of hair comes out after shampooing? I don't know if its normal, i could be allergic to an ingredient. But i did the left side of my scalp yesterday and about 70 hairs came out from that one part?Medicated shampoos?
you may be allergic to it, i suggest you stop using it...

or you could ask your doctor for advice on the medicated shampoo your using and maybe he/she could give you a better product thats compatible with your scalpMedicated shampoos?
i am a hairstylist so i know that you can not lose hair from a shampoo, it has to be something else but losing 70 to 100 hairs a day is perfectly normal so i wouldnt stress over it , the only way you would be able to tell if you had an allergic raction from the shampoo is itching or burning ok? good luck
Be VERY carefull. I suggest speaking to a doctor or consult your local chemist and asking for some advice.

Best to keep off the product also. Avoid using it until you speak to a trained medical advisor.
It's possible that you could be allergic to something in the shampoo.. You should go see a dermatologist to see if they can help you.. My husbands scalp gets so dry that it bleeds. The only thing that helped him was going to the dr. and getting a prescription for a shampoo with a high tar level.. It stinks really really bad but it worked great for him.

I have 8 yr old Ger Shep that scratches & bites lots. No fleas. Flea and medicated shampoos no work. Help?

Probably a food allergy. Most probably corn or gluten. Try him first on a corn free food for a bag. If that doesn't help then try gluten free. If these do not help you might have to switch to one made from duck or some other non standard meat like lamb or fish or venison.I have 8 yr old Ger Shep that scratches %26amp; bites lots. No fleas. Flea and medicated shampoos no work. Help?
You 'll need to go to the vet to be sure. Could be a skin condition. Could be an allergic reaction to her food or something in her environment. Could be an anxiety behavior. You'll need to have her checked out and, as she's getting older, you may have to change her diet somewhat. Your vet is the best authority to help you with this.

Keep her healthy and good luck.I have 8 yr old Ger Shep that scratches %26amp; bites lots. No fleas. Flea and medicated shampoos no work. Help?
try a dog food that's grain free:i have a dog with food allergies.

i use:Dyck van Pattens Natural Balance

they are not too expensive, have dry and canned foods.

check the website,as you can get coupons from the company.
Most likely allergies to something. You should call the vet. They may have you try something like Benadryl. DO NOT give to the dog with out asking a VET.
Maybe it's the food that he is eating. try changing his food.
    Selamectin treatment.
    Try the vet.

HELP!! very flaky scalp, cant use medicated shampoos, what can I try?

Around my hair line, and scalp in general I have patches which flake and my scalp has a general scaly, scabbed feeling. I cant use medicated shampoos as I colour my hair and they strip the colour out really quickly. What can I use to relieve my scalp and flush the flakes out!!??HELP!! very flaky scalp, cant use medicated shampoos, what can I try?
Dandruff is not from dry scalp but from oily scalp... Have you recently changed your hair washing regimen? Did you used to wash daily?

Try washing daily using a light shampoo that won't build up...Don't ever use a 2 in 1 (shampoo plus conditioner) as these are very heavy %26amp; produce build up on hair.

Also, don't pick at the ';scaly's'; you'll damage your scalp more. You should see it clear up in about 2-3 days.HELP!! very flaky scalp, cant use medicated shampoos, what can I try?
Go to a local pharmacy, at any walgreens, hooks, osco ect. and explain the problem, as I'm sure they would recommend an over the counter shampoo that is more of an oil-based moisturizing type, hope this helps you!
lakes is a form of dry skin........put oil regularly not nly flakes will disappear but ur hair will become silky too.
Use a tree tea shampoo. Doesn't strip the color. Paul Mitchell makes one. At least it won't strip it if you are using a permanent color and not the temporary ones.
By coloring your hair alot, it will cause your hair and your scalp to become dry like that. when you wash your hair, wash it twice and maybe even take a bristle brush and scrape all the loose dry skin off. Not harshly though. and when you use a hair conditioner, use one that will coat the hair and then rub it in well into your scalp also to help to put back some of the natural oils in your hair. Also, you could do an Vit. E. oil treatment to your hair by brushing oil into the hair saturating it well on the scalp and the ends of your hair. leave on and put a plastic back over all your hair and then blow dry for half an hour. then wash your hair out and use conditoner again. This will help to get your scalp to heal and to not dry out so bad.
    Tar Shampoo.

Smells bad in some cases but it will clear that right up. You don't have dandruff anyway.
which do you want more? a healthy scalp or dyed hair? pick one. use the shampoo. don't wash your hair every day. use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
there is a medicated shampoo for color treated hair. it is called dermarest. i use it now because i have had a color treatment and i had dry scalp. this works and it solves your problem. i dont

know if they make it, but look for t-gel in color treated hair safe form because that is the best shampoo you can use

Severe dandruff - How do I control that is not going away with medicated shampoos? I've tried all of them.

Dandruff results due to dry scalp and vitamin deficiency. So, refer the site spelled here for further treatments and cure.Severe dandruff - How do I control that is not going away with medicated shampoos? I've tried all of them.
See a dermatologist. He or she will appraise your condition. Scalp problems are very complex

There are many off-the-shelf shampoos that treat such afflictions, but if you don't buy precisely the right one, you'll aggravate the condition and it will just get worse.

And while you're there, you can get a free look over for skin cancer. Well worth the cost of the visit.Severe dandruff - How do I control that is not going away with medicated shampoos? I've tried all of them.
First, what type of dandruff? A lot of dry scalp flakes are caused by not rinsing the product out of your hair completely, using other products such as frizz control, shine control, etc. When using any other product in your hair, you need to wash with a mild shampoo ever night to keep the scalp from drying out and flaking.

If the flakes are from someone using your combs and brushes, or you using someone else's...you shouldn't as the oils in the combs and brushes can cause a reaction of flakes.

Washing your combs and brushes weekly in with your whites with bleach will clean and disinfect.

A low tech solution is to use facial/body scrubs on you scalp. The ones with ground up peach pits or the like works well. Rinsing with apple cider vinegar works also.

    Hope this helps.
You have plaque psoriasis,Dear one,not Dandruff.

Buy psoriasis shampoo %26amp; ask the doc if he can reccomend a good one.
Go to a dermotoligist. I have used prescription shampoo and it makes all the difference.
Take more showers and brush your hair more. Hope this helps

How is selsun salon shampoo not medicated one...sud i ask my doc before using it?

i use head n shoulder otherwiseHow is selsun salon shampoo not medicated one...sud i ask my doc before using it?
In general, a ';medicated'; dose is one that provides a certain effect with a certain level of safety and side effects. Sometimes companies release ';prescription strength'; over the counter after a while because they found that the dose was basically safe enough for people to buy without a doctor's supervision. With that said, just look at the active ingredients. Maybe they use the same dose of the same ingredient; if so they should work exactly the same. Since it's only a dollar or two, I say give it a try and see if it works any better. If you've talked to your doc about the current product you use, it might be worth the time to ask about the new one. Personally I'd just say give it a try and see if it's better.

Besides medicated shampoos, what's a good way to get rid of dandruff?

This really does help with getting rid of dandruff and it is something that isn't expensive ....

Hello, I am almost 11 weeks pregnant and I have a very dry scalp, and always have. My OB told me it was safe to use a non-medicated dandruff shampoo, I have been using head and shoulders but can't figure out for the life of me if that is considered non-medicated or not. Can anyone help?Non-medicated Dandruff Shampoo?
There should be no harm with this remedy. To keep dandruff away, take a tablespoon of lemon juice with 2 tablespoon of coconut oil, massage it well on scalp and hair regularly.Wash your hair with warm water. zinc pyrithione is the active ingredient in head and shoulders, though I am not sure if it is considered a medicated shampoo. Nizoral contains an anti fungal called Ketoconazole, which is a medicated shampoo. I would recommend talking to your doctor about what she would suggest in your case.
head and shoulders is not medicated dont worry

this is medicated and is what ur docs on about.

My shih tzu scratches & lick all over his body all day long. we tried medicated shampoo etc but does not work.

my shih tzu dog scratches %26amp; lick non stop all day %26amp; night. tried applying medication, medicated shampoo etc etc but it does not work pls help!My shih tzu scratches %26amp; lick all over his body all day long. we tried medicated shampoo etc but does not work.
Your dog could have allergies. People cough and sneeze when they have allergy problems, pets itch. There is blood testing to determine if this is a problem. The test could tell you what type of things he may be allergic to and hopefully you could help him avoid these things. My shih tzu scratches %26amp; lick all over his body all day long. we tried medicated shampoo etc but does not work.
mine does that everytime we go to bed , she will lick and lick herself and finally stop !! I guess she's cleaning herself ! cause nothing else is wrong with her !!
it's probably allergies. some dogs get them really bad. usually a vet Will give dogs either a cortisone shot or some prednisone to take when it's bad.
i would take your dog to a vet, it can be a sign of a bigger problem.
I'm assuming you are treating him for fleas.

Collars, sprays and powders don't work. Neither do the ';spot on'; treatments at pet stores. Go to a vet and get Advantage.

While you're there have the doctor give you advise.

Change the dogs food. Wheat and corn cause skin problems.
I don't know what to tell you here. I never had this problem or ever knew of this problem with Shih Tzu.. I guess the best bet would seek advice from your vet..They can give him an itch shot. They are better equip to answer your question after they examine your dog. I would try that first.
It could be an allergy problem but only the vet can diagnoze for sure and offer medication.
Do you feed your dog only dog food? dogs show allergies in their skin when fed people food so she could be having a huge allergy problem right now, thats what it sounds like and the more she itches the more chance she has of getting an infection. take her to the vet and they will give her an allergy shot. Or try baby benadryl depending on her size check the dosage, it might help. my vet suggested it.

  • I found moving head lice on my 7 year old. Treated her with medicated shampoo.?

After shampooing I used the small toothed comb. I got about 20-30 moving head lice out of her hair. Shouldn't the medicated shampoo killed off the head lice? I brushed her hair for over an hour, but I am afraid there are still some on her head. What should I do now?I found moving head lice on my 7 year old. Treated her with medicated shampoo.?
Make sure that you're using the product correctly. You may not have left it on for long enough, or you may need multiple treatments. Lice products are much like flea sprays for animals- they usually work over an extended time period.

    http://www.ridlice.com/faqs.html

Also make sure that you're eliminating the lice around the house to prevent re infestation.

People used to put gasoline on people's hair (bad idea), but I know that an effective treatment for lice (in addition to the lice shampoo), is to pour tea tree oil on the scalp and comb through with a lice pick. You can find it at a vitamin store or in the vitamin aisle. It smells, but it dries out nits and kills lice pretty effectively.

http://specialchildren.about.com/od/medi鈥?/a>I found moving head lice on my 7 year old. Treated her with medicated shampoo.?
You must also treat bedding and stuffed animals. You can purchase spray for the bedding, but the best treatment for the stuffed animals in to place them in giant garbage bags for a couple of weeks. Another thing you can do for the hair is to dye it. The chemicals with kill the eggs and bugs. I did this with my daughter when she was younger and it seemed to work better than even the shampoo from the doctors. You can easily find a dye that matches your child's natural hair color.
if you have time, put conditioner in her hair, and comb it through thoroughly. The conditioner disables the lice, and allows you to remove them. Also treat with medicated lotion or shampoo from pharmacy, to get rid of nits, which will otherwise hatch and continue the cycle.
after you shampoo ..use the lice comb and get all the nits off ( nits are sticky egg sacs attached to strands of hair containing zillions of offspring) If you dont get them all they hatch....Also they live in fabric..in your car on stuffed animal rugs hats halloween masks..couched ..treat everything. A hot dryer will kill the nits ..toss what you can in the dryer
usually the medicated rinse makes so the eggs dont hatch, eventually the nits will die off but you have to be persistent with the combing, shampoo and sterilizing bed sheets etc.

Does anyone know of a great medicated shampoo for dogs?

I have an English Bull Dog with skin allergies and I am trying to find a really good medicated shampoo. Just so everyone knows...my vet has tried many different types and we haven't found the right one for her. So please do not write back saying for me to ask a vet. I have obviously already done that to no avail. Now I am just looking for people that hae used good shampoos and can recommend one. I also love herbal remedies and would be very open if anyone has any home remedies for dog baths. I use cinnamon to keep fleas away in tandem to her monthly flea pill and it works great. Any suggestions?Does anyone know of a great medicated shampoo for dogs?
I have use just about every shampoo out there as well including tons of stuff from the vet! I just found this stuff called relief! By the best!

I am not using the shampoo just the cream rinse! I am using Arbonne baby shampoo and the cream rinse and this is the longest we have gone with out her have to have a bath! It鈥檚 been 3 weeks by the way!

http://www.petcarerx.com/pcrx/ProductPag鈥?/a>Does anyone know of a great medicated shampoo for dogs?
At the clinic I work at we use the product Hy-lite it helps with skin problems and also there is a conditioner that you can use it helps with the skin it is also by Hy-lite
Sorry to disagree, but there IS such a breed as an English Bull %26amp; also a breed French Bull %26amp; they are both AKC recognized. I do agree on the Four Paws shampoo.
You have to just keep trying until you find the one that's right for YOUR dog.

FWIW, I like Oats Fur Coats by Kelco. It's an oatmeal shampoo with cinnamon in it.
go to pugs and kisses i got my dogs special shampoo from there
    MALASEB
I have a 6 year old Bulldog. (The breed is NOT called an English Bulldog, BTW) Try this one: Magic Coat, made by Four Paws....Hypo Allergenic medicated shampoo for pets with aloe vera %26amp; coal tar, use by Veterinarians for the relief of dandruff, dermatitis, itching and dry skin. (this is what it says on the bottle)

Add: Sly Kitty, I'm sorry but if you go to the AKC website, you WILL see what the breed is called. BULLDOG IS what my AKC registration papers say. Go check it out if you don't believe me. I *KNOW* for a fact that I'm 100% correct on this one! French Bulldog...yes. English Bulldog.....no.
First, get your dog off of food with any corn, wheat, fillers, artificial anything and preservatives. The problem has to be fixed from the inside out.

Then, get a good tar and sulfur DOG shampoo, I love espree's t%26amp;S, smells like cherries, www.espree.com and bathe him weekly, let him soak in it for at least 5 minutes and rinse him really well.

Once the food has worked it's way through his system this problem should be cleared up.

You might have to experiment a bit with the food, Avoderm is a good one for skin, as is Canidae All Life Stage and Evo.

Or, better yet, research and put him on a raw natural diet, it WILL help.

Herbal won't help your dog in fact if he is allergic to grains in foods, he will be allergic to grains type shampoos like oatmeal. The best way I have found is to use first Benzoyl peroxide shampoo leave on for 10min then follow up with a chlorhexidine shampoo also for 10min. The benezoyl cleans out the hair follicles then the chlorhexidine is antibacterial %26amp; anti fungal to kill any bacterial/fungus on the skin. This has to be done at least once a week depending on how bad the skin is. Sometimes as the skin clears up you might need a gentle light conditioner to keep skin from drying out from multiple baths.

I get dry scalp evry winter and medicated shampoos don't seem to work.?

Help! Any ideas? Do you have any remedies that could help!I get dry scalp evry winter and medicated shampoos don't seem to work.?
A client came in and brought her own shampoo, and it works excellent on her hair. She uses it weekly though. She also said she uses it on her kids, too. It's called DHS. Her dermatologist prescribed it for her but its only available online. The shampoo is called DHS clear shampoo and the conditioner is called DHS conditioning rinse. They are sensitive enough for daily use as well. Try it out!!!

Glad to be of some help!,

JasmineI get dry scalp evry winter and medicated shampoos don't seem to work.?
try not shampooing it so often! thats also really damaging to your hair to shampoo it very often. oh and fish oil supplements work wonders! :]
Have you tried hot oil treatments? Also, try to avoid washing your hair everyday and drink more water.
I live in a semi arid area of the country where dry scalp is common. I use a good conditioner. Works for me.
I know exactly what you mean! I live in the middle of the desert, and I have the same problem.

I've found that hot oil treatments help some. You can buy them at Wal-Mart, the grocery store, or your local beauty supply store (like Sally Beauty Supply, if there is one in your area.)

Another thing I have done that's worked fairly well is to actually put lotion on my scalp at night if I'm planning on showering the next morning, and wear a soft cotton cap to bed. Then the next morning, I can shampoo my hair and wash away all the lotion.

Other than that, drink water! Now, with the cold setting in and the dry air, it's much harder to keep hydrated. Make sure you're getting plenty of water every day.

    Any medicated shampoo brands recommended?

my mare has kind've has a skin condition around her muzzle %26amp; eyes. it's extremely minor but I have an idea that it might be rain rot cause they're kind've scab looking. anyway, does anybody have any mediacated shampoo brand that they'd like to recommend? %26amp; nothing expensive please. I've already got my cash tied up for some more grooming supplies(which includes the shampoo) but u get the point. =)Any medicated shampoo brands recommended?
It probably isn't rain rot because that generally does not occur on the muzzle and usually are not scabs but just areas without hair. It could still be a fungal infection so the medicated shampoo may help. It could be bug bites?

I like Equinature's products because they are all natural and very effective. Since it is only on her muzzle I would recommend a gel treatment rather than a shampoo. Try this...

It is great because it clears up conditions caused by fungus (rain rot), bug bites or infestation, or just regular old scratches. This way no matter what your horse has it will clear it up. They also come in wipes

If you REALLY want a shampoo they have that too...

The best thing to keep on hand is plain old betadine scrub. It can be used for washing areas where bacterial or fungal skin infections appear to causing problems as well as for cleaning wounds.

This is the common first step we recommend at the equine hospital for owners who call with horses having crusts or scabs or hair loss.
MicroTek is the best shampoo out there. It works wonders.

My son has very severe cradle cap still.. his doctor has given him a medicated shampoo. Anyone else?

it's been 2 weeks and it got better, but it's starting to come back slow...My son has very severe cradle cap still.. his doctor has given him a medicated shampoo. Anyone else?
dont stress. it will eventually go away.

my son had the worst case I have ever seen, we called it cradle crap. I would put the oil on his head and take out scabs of it with a comb.

He is 19 now and cradle crap free, well ..he is 6'3'; so I assue its gone, I cant see the top of head anymore! My son has very severe cradle cap still.. his doctor has given him a medicated shampoo. Anyone else?
Baby Naturals makes a cradel cap shampoo that I used on my son. I used it everyday until the cradel cap was gone, and then for 2 days afterwards. After that, he never had cradle cap again. Once the cradle cap is gone, try rubbing some olive oil on his head to keep the skin there soft and moist. It shoudl keep the cradle cap from coming back, but make the skin soft enough to scrape off if it does come back.

Baby Naturals comes in a green bottle.
Try olive oil over night and see how it goes. It does go eventually - depends how old your son is and whether he has any other skin problems as it may not be that if he has other problems.
I asked my mom when my daughter had it (severely) and she said she put baby oil and used a comb.

So thats what I did and there was not a problem after that .

(I know it kind of made me want to puke all that stuff)

So I agree with the above...

    BABY OIL!
I only had this problem with my oldest child, and I used the medicated shampoo. I also used a baby toothbrush to gently scrub the scalp, and it worked really well.

    Good Luck - I know it's worrisome.
Start washing it more often. Daily is best.
Only one of my boys had this issue. I have three boys and two girls (12-2). He is now 6 and is beautiful! I used the baby oil, like many others said. I put it on his head just before bed when he was about 3-4 months old. Just enough to make his head wet, but not dripping. I left it on over night, as suggested to me, mind you, my first child didn't have this so I wasn't really sure what to expect. In the morning I took a baby comb and brushed through his hair. I was ';SHOCKED';, to say the least, when every single piece of his hair fell out while I combed it. I cried and cried. However, I must say, after all that, it never came back!! I hated what it did, but for me, I'd do it again, His hair grew back so nice and soft, and it grew in fast. I know this might not be every-ones' idea of a good thing, but knowing it wasn't bothering him (itching) anymore made it all worth it for me - and he was too young to care!.
You should use a soft baby brush and brush your baby's head while you nurse to help pass the time.

None of my babies had cradle cap, thrush, or the host of other maladies that I hear about babies. I must have been blessed, or babies are just plain sicker nowadays.
I USE TO PUT BABY OIL ON THE BABY'S HEAD AND TAKE A BABY COMB AND GET IT OUT, YOU HAVE TO DO THIS MANY TIMES, TRY TO KEEP SOME BABY OIL ON THE BABY'S HEAD, AND IT WOULDN'T BE SO HARD THE NEXT TIME IT COMES BACK. IF YOU WASH THE BABY'S HEAD EVERYDAY, THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN,
my little girl is 2 1/2 yrs she still gets it once in awhile. rub olive or any kind of kitchen oil on his head an hour or so before bath time, then gently wash it out with a soft brush, then always when you bath him just brush his hair and always keep his head clean.. it is not serious or contagious , so i wouldnt worry abou it
Try gently applying cooking oil to your babys scalp, avoid any that are derived fron nuts, esp. peanut, avoiding any potential bad reaction to nuts....massage it into the affected areas, leave it on overnight and gently scrape at the cradle cap with your finger nail the following day.

You can do this as often as you like, it makes the hair look yucky but it doesn't matter if you do this overnight and then bathe your baby in the morning after removing the crusts.

This was the most effective method I used with 2 of my babies.

Don't be alarmed if the scalp is a little pink for a short while after, or if a few hairs are removed along with the crusts, they will soon grow back.
I know most recommend baby oil, but that never worked for me. We battled with cradle cap for almost 3 years with my son. You can get P%26amp;S Liquid over the counter. The directions say to use it overnight but it can get messy - especially with a little one. I lathered his head up about 20 mins before bathtime, then gently scraped the scales out with a fine toothed comb and washed with head and shoulders shampoo. It only took about a week and it was gone, and never did come back. Worth a shot!!
I agree with the baby oil. Thats what we always did,(way back in 70's %26amp; 80's). Also you could call the baby's doctor and see what they think!
A doctor told me just to wash their head with dandruff shampoo. Adult shampoo, so you have to be careful not to get it in their eyes.

How do you get head lice/nits out if the medicated shampoo's and combs aren't working?

My daughter has been diagnosed with head lice. I used the RID shampoo and the bugs were still moving. YES I left it on for 10 minutes. I then used the com out gel and it didn't work. I got the big bugs out but the nits are still in there. she has really curly hair and I even cut off over 6 inches of her hair because i thought it would help me get the nits out. I comb and conmb and they just stay clung to her hair. Somebodu told me to use my fingernails but there's not enough time int he day for me to go through and pick each one out by hand. ANY SUGGESTIONS on how to get them out more easily and effectively? I'm scared they are going to hatch even though I used that shampoo etc and then she's going to be covered in bugs AGAIN. Any helpful info would be SOOOO very much appreciated. Just thinking about it is making me itch.. I had to put a shower cap on her head to take her to the babysitters while I was at work to guarantee she wouldn't get those nits on the babysitters furniture. :-(How do you get head lice/nits out if the medicated shampoo's and combs aren't working?
i know this sounds gross but mayonaise then use a dandruff shampoo it has an ingrediant the lice shampoo hasHow do you get head lice/nits out if the medicated shampoo's and combs aren't working?
i dont like to say this but my nieces got them and we tried everything, they didnt work so we shaved their heads! dramatic i know, but afterwards they came over for a visit and they said 'we want to keep our hair short cause i've got no bities' they really like it and most importantly it worked!
Are you cleaning your house the proper way? Washing all bedding, furniture? Places she could still be contacting the lice? Head lice are hard to get rid of. If she has them she shouldn't be going to sitter and exposing sitters house and other kids. I have heard that mayo works.
When my three daughters were in school they contacted head lice, my girls had very long thick hair which made dragging the nit comb through it a nightmare for all concerned. I sprayed their heads with straight vinegar which killed the problem but getting those eggs out worried me in case they hatched. I smothered each girls head with hair conditioner and divided it into sections which made using the nit comb a lot easier, the eggs just slid out.
My kids suffered with those in early elementary school...would pick them up from daycare. After buying numerous boxes of rid, I finally found out about a natural, less expensive and non-poisonous treatment which worked and they never had them again.

Here goes: Either use mayonnaise or salad oil after shampooing hair. Then apply a shower cap and towel over head, leaving on overnight. In the morning, wash hair and strip the mayo or oil out with vinegar and comb out with nit brush again. I did it once and it worked, I was amazed and not sure why the school hadn't suggested this very inexpensive treatment....would save people money and time. I had even thrown away mattresses.

The oil or mayo suffocates the bugs.

    Good luck!

your dog could be having a reaction to the shampoo or has other problems you should speak to your vet about this.
make sure you wash all the shampoo out, know it sounds obvious but my dog has sensitive skin and he gets scurfy if i dont wash all off. i use tea tree shampoo if i have to wash him now he is a border terrrier x. could be allergic to something or just sensitive, make sure your dog doesn't have contact with fleas as that can show the same symptoms again its a sensitivity thing, any doubts though take her to the vet for a check up. good luck hope you sort it out
Was it a dog shampoo or a human one?

If it was a humn shampoo she may be allergic to it.

Remember dogs should not be bathed often-once or twice a year is enough if you groom them right!
Stop bathing your dog so much! Too much water combined with a strong shampoo (any shampoo is a strong shampoo at that age -- use a shampoo for puppies if you have to bathe her) can dry out her skin and give her dandruff. Also, she might be in a period where her coat changes from puppy to more of a terrier coat. As the breeder you got her from, and see what they say. If they have no idea, I'd say consult a vet if the problem persists, particularly if the dog is uncomfortable (dry skin, itchy, scratches herself so she bleeds behind the ears)
there is a product called oder be gone at pet shop cost 12 dollars it gets rid of any bacteria fugus problem just add to drinking water
she could have been allergic to the medication in the shampoo. was it doggy shampoo? go to the vets
Was there something wrong with her to actually need the medication? Also, if she was young then your not really supposed to bathe them yet, at least not with anything strong.

There may be some shampoo still left on her, either that or she is having a reaction to it. Give her another bath, this time without any shampoo.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY YORKIE SHE HAS ALLERGIES AND THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED HER WAS TO GO TO A VET SPECIALIST AND SHE GAVE ME AN RX FOR KANGAROO AND OAT DOG FOOD AND SPECIAL SHAMPOO FOR HER BABY SHAMPOO ALSO WORKS WELL IN PINCH

I have a carpet stain caused by medicated dog shampoo. Nothing is getting it 100% out. Home remedies?

There are 2 items that will work on this type of stain. 1 is peroxide and 2 is a mixture of vinegar and water. Place one in a spray bottle and clean the area. Do not use both at the same time. Be sure to use only a white towel to blot up the area. This should work, depending on what other methods you have used. Some things actually set the stain instead of cleaning it. If all else fails you will have to have the carpet professionally cleaned, they have cleansers for all types of stains. DO NOT rent a cleaner from the supermarket, they end up usually making matters worse.I have a carpet stain caused by medicated dog shampoo. Nothing is getting it 100% out. Home remedies?
Have you tried Oxi Clean? You may still have soap in the carpet, time to take out the shop vac. Get it wet, scrub the water in and vac it up. Keep doing this until there are no more suds. If there's still a stain, take out the oxi clean and scrub it clean and vac it all up! A regular house vac won't get it. My two year old poured out half a bottle of purple body wash and that's how I got it up.

    Frontline and medicated shampoo?

I treated my dogs with Frontline yesterday and it says to wait 24 hours before bathing. It's been a little over 24 now. The question is would it be OK to use medicated shampoo? I want to use medicated shampoo to help relieve the itch from the old flea bites. I know the easiest would be to call the vet and ask but it's a military vet and it isn't as simple as calling and getting someone to answer the phone.

Thanks in advance.Frontline and medicated shampoo?
It depends on what kind of ';medicated'; shampoo you are using. If it is flea shampoo, do not use it. You should never double-dose on similar medications, and both frontline and flea shampoo are insecticides.

If it's an ';itch-relief'; shampoo, it's probably OK. But you're probably better off not shampooing the dog at all since it will wash some of the frontline off. If the dog is having a terrible reaction to the flea bites, a small amount of children's benadryl would be good (adjust how much you give the dog based on the dog's weight - see the link below) and probably work better than the shampoo, since it will actually stop the reaction to the flea bites.Frontline and medicated shampoo?
what kind fo medicated shampoo? if your talking about flea shampoo i wouldnt just in case it reacts with the frontline. just use a moisturizing shampoo, and if there are some spots that they have scratched red, then use calamine lotion, it really helps!
I have been told not to double treat the dog.

In this case using frontline is one treatment and then using flea shampoo is another treatment for the fleas. I would go with a all natural shampoo that wont harm the dog like earth bath products.
    Should be safe..

Anyone know an EFFECTIVE CURE for dandruff? Not just medicated shampoo. Surely there is a permanent cure.?

I have persistent dandruff that won't go away even with medicated shampoo. Am I missing some nutrient(s) or is it related to a fungus or virus or something? I even have flaking behind my eyebrows and occasionally peeling and redness on and beside my nose. Besides hydrocortisone cream and dandruff shampoo...what can I do to stop the underlying problem causing these symptoms?Anyone know an EFFECTIVE CURE for dandruff? Not just medicated shampoo. Surely there is a permanent cure.?
    Hi Brandon...

I'm curious - do you drink an adequate amount of water? I think you're onto something in saying that this is nutrient-related. I'm not a health freak by any means but I do notice changes in my body when I eat certain foods.

A few years back, I found a book that helped me address a few problems I was having. It turned out the problems were food-related and were based on my blood type. As an example, I can eat turkey but not chicken because my body can't break down the meat. I've learned that I should stay away from mangoes, bananas, radishes, olives ...well, I won't list them all here. But the theory is pretty interesting. My library had a copy of the book, and since it's a few years old, it may be easier than trying to find it in a bookstore. The link is below: it's called EAT RIGHT 4 YOUR TYPEAnyone know an EFFECTIVE CURE for dandruff? Not just medicated shampoo. Surely there is a permanent cure.?
Ooh, that does sound nasty. I had that problem, too, and it just turned out that I had really dry skin. Try to find some cortizone cream at the store to put on the areas that are red, and also start using a facial moisturizer, Also, go to the store and look for some hydrating shampoo. If none of these things help, then see a dermatologist.

Step by Step InstructionsThings You'll Need:

    One-half cup olive oil

    Ten aspirins

Mortar and pestle or rolling pin

    Small bowl

Step 2Pour the crushed aspirin into a small bowl. Add the olive oil to the aspirin. Mix well to make a paste.

Step 3Massage the aspirin and oil mixture onto your dry scalp. Let stand for at least five minutes.

Step 4Rinse your scalp thoroughly with cool, clean water. Continue rinsing your head for at least one minute.

Non medicated dandruff shampoo safe for pregnancy?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and have a very dry scalp. It's very itchy and uncomfortable. My OB told me I can use a non-medicated dandruff shampoo. I have been using Head and Shoulders but I can't figure out if that is considered non-medicated or not. Any help?Non medicated dandruff shampoo safe for pregnancy?
I'm not completely sure, but i don't think that's considered medicated. Ask your OB. They should know. But I think a strong shampoo that SAYS medicated on it, like Selson Blue Medicated, would be what's considered medicated. But like i said, i'm not completely sure, so call the dr if you are worried. I'm sure you're fine.

  • In the winter months, i get very dry scalp. I wash my hair with medicated shampoo...?

in cold water and use good conditioners. I use hair products without alcohol. My hair gets so dry it breaks off and it gets really thin on top. I never have the problem in the spring or summer. Any good suggestions? In the winter months, i get very dry scalp. I wash my hair with medicated shampoo...?
First off, medicated shampoos have ingredients in them that help your scalp condition but dry your hair. Alot of products used on the scalp hurt the hair. Alcohol should not be used on your hair because it also dries the hair this is why gels can be damaging over a period of time. And if you are using these two products in the winter you are going to have alot of breakage. Cold dry air, alcohol, and medicated shampoos for the scalp are all drying. Start using deep penetrating conditioners or hair treatments. The conditioners you use are probably only topical. these conditioners only add some moisture, but mainly detangle the hair. Use deep conditioning treatments with a cap on your head and sit under the dryer for 20 min, that should do it. Use them once a week. Try to not shampoo so much, this is also drying and causes hair to break. You are stripping your hair of its natural oils whenever you shampoo, deep conditioning treatments put moisture back in the hair that was lost. You may also need a trim if your hair is that dry. Once you get a split end it continues to the root.In the winter months, i get very dry scalp. I wash my hair with medicated shampoo...?

You could wash it less often, and let the natural oils stay on longer. Air dry as much as you can, avoid overuse the blow dryer.
you use mild shampoo and conditioner. hot oil your hair once or twice a week to prevent it from drying. some hair get really dry when winter, it only means that you have sensitive scalp.
A generous oil application and massage is recommended before washing the hair. Frequent shampooing is harmful for dry hair. Sometimes lack of nutrients can also cause dry brittle hair. I'm a virgin guy living in a college dorm and somehow I contracted pubic lice (aka crabs.) I'd been a little itchy in my nether region but I didn't make much of it 'till I noticed what I thought was a scab start moving.

Needless to say, I panicked and plucked as many of the little buggers out as I could. When that wasn't satisfactory, I shaved all around my groin/butt and legs (I found one or two of them above my knee too.) I bought the CVS brand of medicated shampoo and applied it. I washed my bedding, all my clothes, and vacuumed my room. Is there anything else I can do aside from reapply the shampoo in a week? Do I clean my bedding again in a week after my second treatment? I'm not convinced I got all the lice because I can't see everywhere, and I couldn't really use the nit comb since I shaved. (Except my butt, kinda hard to shave/reach back there so will the medication kill those eggs too?) Thanks a bunch, this has been an awful experience. Will shaving + medicated shampoo get rid of crabs?
As soon as you know you have crabs either from a doctor or your partner, go to the pharmacy and ask for Permethrin 1% cr猫me rinse, or skin cream in a tube and a bottle of Mexana powder. (Avoid buying Lindane ingredient shampoo otherwise known as Kwell芒, which is being studied for nerve and brain damage.) While you are out, go to Wal-Mart and pick up two new pillows, a new set of bed sheets and a new blanket. (You don鈥檛 need to buy these items if you have spare items that you haven鈥檛 touched in the last thirty days. Lastly, pick up and appropriate size plastic mattress cover, (twin, queen, king, etc.).

Go back to your place and strip your bed down to the mattress. Put ALL pillows and bedclothes, (even bed spread or comforter) in a large garbage bag and seal it.

Next, strip down and shower. (Consider shaving off ANY coarse hair off of your body, except eyebrows and eyelashes. Shave your chest, armpits, pubic hair, beard and moustache off. Pubic hair grows back fairly quickly and you will most likely eliminate the tenacious eggs (nits) that cling to the hair. No eggs, no future crabs.) Later on, thoroughly clean the bathroom with a disinfectant foam or light bleach solution.

Next, dry off thoroughly and apply the Permethrin 1% cream from your knees to your chest. Wait 10 minutes. Step back into the shower and thoroughly wash it off. Dry off and then dust your armpits, groin and chest with the Mexana medicated powder. The powder does three things: medicates the irritated bite marks on your body, relieves itching, and helps to speed up the destruction of the crab parasites by hastening dehydration and promoting death. Examine your eyebrows carefully for nits, or eggs. Read the instructions on the bottle to see if you can use the Permethrin on your eyebrows. Most products say you cannot.

Put on clean clothes AND socks that you have not worn in the last two weeks.

Go back to your bedroom and put the new plastic mattress cover on your bare mattress. Put fresh sheets and pillows on the bed and the fresh blanket.

Look around the room. Do you have chairs in the room with cushions? Seal the cushions in the plastic garbage bag too.

Next go into the living room and take the cushions out of the sofa and any chair cushions. Put them in a plastic garbage bag. Seal the bag.

The carpet is usually not a problem, but if you think it is, you have a few choices:

Hire a professional company to come out.

Rent a steamer from the grocery store or home improvement center and buy a small bottle of eucalyptus essential oil from the health food store and use it to kill the crabs in the carpet. Use the regular machine soap then go over the area with the eucalyptus oil. This is also a non-toxic way to kill fleas too!

Sprinkle crushed or powdered salt around to fatally dehydrate the crabs, wait a week and then vacuum thoroughly.

Now the last thing you have to think about is your bed linens and your regular laundry. Heat kills Crabs. If you can鈥檛 put your nice bedroom comforter and in a hot commercial dryer, then have them dry-cleaned. In fact, why not give all of your laundry to the cleaner for thorough cleaning? If you elect to do your own laundry, leave non-washable items in the hot commercial dryer for 15 minutes. Dry all clothes, after washing in hot water, in the dryer on high for at least thirty minutes. After you have done all of this, you may re-treat your body in a week, just to be sure. Otherwise you should be fine. It is not unusual to itch for another two weeks even after you have gotten rid of the Crabs. Part of it is psychological and part of it is your skin being irritated from being bit. See a doctor if any bite areas appear infected or swollen, or if your eyelids become infected. Examine your eyebrows carefully and periodically to check for Crab eggs. Will shaving + medicated shampoo get rid of crabs?
this is a cool way my nan told me this one she was a nurse!!!

shave off all pubic hair.....lice need hair to attach too

go to chemist and get a nit solution and apply but nan said going totally baldy was the old fashioned way to do it and very organic!!lie on back naked and stretch bum apart and use mirror

that was a bit of bad luck eh!

you probabley have killed them all off but i can understand why you are worried that you havent.
medicated shampoo should work also buy the spray for lice to use on bedding. Keep it around cuz in a drom who knows who sits on your bed or uses your bath room and towels. if you truly are a virgin someone spread it around all over your stuff.
I think you need to take a trip to the doctor and get some proper treatment.
have to remove the hair, as a matter of choice (my wife says I look good like it) I shave the front and cream the butt.

you will need all new bedding

if you in a dormatory then all the beds need new bedding

one of your room mates has contracted it and it has spread in your room.

you should consider moving rooms, unles the culprit has already gone
Put some Vaseline on any areas that are hairy (dont forget your eyebrows ) and relax. I know they are horrible but the shampoo will sort them out.
Medicated shampoo will not kill the lice if there any left. You might have them in your armpits or hair. You need to visit the chemist and ask for advice on the proper lotion you need to use. Your bedding will need to be washed at the highest temp the machine will do and the mattress disinfected. Use a nit comb in your hair. Don't panic they are easily eradicated and more common than most people realise.
Change your bedding daily and used the shampoo everywhere hairy, they can live in all of your hair including your stomach and armpit hair.

You need to be using Head lice shampoo
Pubic lice are best treated with a prescription wash such as Elimite or Kwell:

    * Thoroughly work the shampoo into the pubic hair and surrounding area for at least 5 minutes.

    * Rinse well.

    * Comb the pubic hair with a fine-tooth comb to remove eggs (nits). Applying vinegar to pubic hair before combing may help loosen nits, but the hair should be dry when applying the shampoo.

A single treatment is all that is usually needed. If another treatment is recommended, it should be done 4 days to 1 week later.

Over-the-counter medications for the treatment of lice include Rid and Nix.

At the time of treatment, wash all clothing and linens in hot water. Items that cannot be washed may be sprayed with a medicated spray or sealed (suffocated) in plastic bags and not used for 10 - 14 days. It is imperative for all intimate contacts to receive treatment at the same time.

People with pubic lice should be evaluated for other sexually-transmitted disease at the time of diagnosis.

it is not necessary for it to be a medicated shampoo--just a basic good cleansing shampoo is fine...even dish soap will work in a pinch, although it may cause a little dry skinWhat medicated shampoo do you use on dog to remove poison ivy?

I'm African American and used a skin care product that was to harsh for my skin and now it is lighter in some areas. This happened about 6 years ago but I was wondering is it to late to doing anything about it? I was reading that Selsun blue may help. I'm not yet 30 but I wanted to know has to much time passed to seek treatment? Also if I do use Selsun Blue how long until I see results. Thanks!Selsun blue- Can Selsun blue medicated shampoo help wtih skin discoloraration?
Selsun Blue is used to help with Tinea versicolor.

This is a fungus that is naturally on your skin but when it gets hot out it can be an outbreak.

This causes white little patches mostly on your torso but can also be on your arms and face.

These feel itchy like someone is pricking you with a small needle.

Selsun blue just clears the fungus. Not the spots...

The best thing you can do is see your doctor and they might know how to even your skin tone.

Ideas for a black lab with a ';dandruffy'; coat? Have been using a medicated shampoo recommended by vet.

I am really not sure how often to bathe her. The vet reccommened twice a week. That seems like a lot?? We have used the shampoo for about two weeks. Seems to help for a short time.Ideas for a black lab with a ';dandruffy'; coat? Have been using a medicated shampoo recommended by vet.
Poor skin condition is usually diet related , try changing dog food to a good quality dog food or their could be something not agreeing with your dog in his present food . Zinc deficiency can cause skin and coat problems , I would give your dog a good mineral supplement ';twice a week

    ';{they do not need it daily because the body has the ability to store most minerals}

also add fish oil to his diet daily . Hope this helps .

Where do i get speical medicated shampoo for my horse?

my new mare has very sensitive skin and i have to buy her a speical shampoo and conditioner (for mane and tail) but i cant seem to find it anywear i found it a wile ago but the shop i bought it from went out of buisness

when ever i use regular shampoo she gets a rash and starts itching every wear or she gets hive and i really need the shampoo so where do i get it?Where do i get speical medicated shampoo for my horse?
Use a quality oatmeal shampoo that is labeled safe for cats. Cats are a lot more sensitive than horses, and if it won't harm a cat it won't harm a horse.

Why bathe her with a shampoo at all? Water will do the trick without stripping her natural body oils and you sure won't leave any residue if you don't use the shampoo in the first place. Most of the itching following a bath is from soap residue. Another effect of bathing with a soap is stripping off the natural body oils along with the dirt.

If you feel you MUST use a shampoo, follow it up with a vinegar rinse. Vinegar will neutralize the alkaline soaps. Like a cup of vinegar, any kind but some people swear by real apple cider vinegar, in a bucket of warm water. Sponge it over her. No rinsing necessary.Where do i get speical medicated shampoo for my horse?
We use baby shampoo on all of our horses. That way it is gentle %26amp; won't hurt their eyes.

OldDoc had a good idea with the oatmeal shampoo though.

Sorry, but without a name can't really help.
You can usually find it at most tack or feed stores and online too.
Have you tried calling the company that makes the shampoo or going online to find a store locator? Also talk to a local tack store. Any questions I've had with finding specific needs in my new town, I've just gone to the tack/feed store and asked the worker. They have known where to go everytime from roughstock rigging to dressage show clothes to boarding stables. Otherwise try www.doversaddlery.com. They will be a little more expensive, but they usually have a nice selection!
Visit the Tractor Supply in your area they should have it.
What is the name of the shampoo??? Will look for it on line if you know.
baby shampoo is cheap, and doesn't effect their skin at all.

i can even use it on my gelding who is allergic to all chemicals and silicone.

also, puppy or kitten shampoo would probably work (already suggested though...)

add: if she is itchy after, are you sure you got all the soap out? usually left in soap makes them itchy (wont happen with baby shampoo) but while you are rinsing it rinse, ring out her tail/sweat scrape her body and then rinse again, you'll be able to see all the soap suds you left behind.
If you can't remember the name...maybe describe the bottle and label to us...we can't help you without that information. Oh yeah...American or somewhere else?
Either look online or call your Vet. If you know the brand of the shampoo that worked, see if they have a website. If not, most online tack stores should carry a variety. Most equine veterinary clinics also carry some shampoo, but it might be more expensive.
I'm not sure where t get it, sorry but theirs a shampoo that I use on my poney who, because of his THICK fur he gets really itchy due to some kind of fungus (dont get the wrong impression we take VERY good care of our horses, and love them to pices, and do all we can for them, beleive me) so we use a shampoo that has iodine in it, its really neat (but it can stain your clothes!) I went up to the barn twice and kept forgeting to look, so im sorry, but hopefully you, or someone else will know what im talking about! sorry I hope this helps and also ask your vet!

How do you get rid of lice besides using the medicated shampoo?

    Alyssa,

There are some proven methods and some home remedies like mayo.

The proven methods usually including some type of enzyme based product that is clinically roven to dissolve the nit glue and immobilize the lice while you comb them out with a high quality nit comb and not the cheap ones that you get with the drugstore shampoo or on their own at the store.

The best we have seen that gets the lice and nits out is the NitFree brand. This is what we used and what we recommend to friends.

Don't give in and our chemicals all over your head when there is a safe and environmentally friendly solution that works.

Good luck. How do you get rid of lice besides using the medicated shampoo?

Is there a way to get rid of head lice without using all the medicated shampoo you can get?

My little sister has picked up head lice from school, they like her hair because she has very thick hair, now she can't get it thinned out because salon's won't treat hair with head lice. We've tried the shampoo you can get but it doesnt seem to get rid of all of them. Is there any other way? I'd also need to do my brother's hair too to make sure they don't come back.Is there a way to get rid of head lice without using all the medicated shampoo you can get?
wash her hair with normal shampoo and then towel dry hair, now add conditioner to her hair (you could add some drops of neem or tea tree oil to it if you like) them massage it through her head and hair. Comb out with a nit comb then rinse. do this every 3 days for 2 weeks. Then use a neem oil conditioner to deter any new nits.

You can also get a non chemical leave in condition that you massage in comb through and no need to rinse. look in holland and barret. Is there a way to get rid of head lice without using all the medicated shampoo you can get?
I would surgest trying a diffirent headlice shampoo.

Comb them out with a headlice comb.

If this doesn't work then use lots of conditioner and a headlice comb and they will slide out. But it will take ages and you have to keep checking incase they layed eggs and they hatch. I would personally cut her hair short because it will make it harder for them to come back.

In my grandparents day they would shave their heads and burn the hair. The only other thing I can surgest if it keeps failing is trying everything on the market to get rid of them or consult your doctor.
shave the head bald. No hair no lice.

Ok to use expired medicated shampoo(for cats) if they have nothing medically wrong?

My cat got into something outside and smells terrible. I found some old medicated cat shampoo under the sink. It already expired and I dont have any way to get to the pet store. Is it ok to use it? Would it be better to use lo'real kids? Please only answer if you have experience with bathing cats. Thank YouOk to use expired medicated shampoo(for cats) if they have nothing medically wrong?
I'd toss the medicated shampoo. That's pretty old - some medications become ineffective past their expiration date, but others can become deadly. You don't want to take a chance of poisoning your cat. Same thing with the kid's shampoo - it's got conditioners, etc. that could make him ill from ingesting it. Just use dish soap - that's the safest. And good luck - bathing a cat is quite an adventure!Ok to use expired medicated shampoo(for cats) if they have nothing medically wrong?
I would use the medicated shampoo. Just make sure not to get it in the eyes or mouth or ears. If it has expired within the last year then it is still probably ok. Never use human shampoo or soap. It is really bad for their skin.

Can medicated shampoo for dogs burn their skin?

I am supposed to leave it on for 10 minutes per the vet.Can medicated shampoo for dogs burn their skin?
Depending what kind of condition you dog has then yes it could. If the condition has gotten so bad that it has small open wounds then of course it would burn. But if its something like the first stages of hot spots then it usually shouldn't...but look at it like this, at least its fixing whatever is wrong with the dog!Can medicated shampoo for dogs burn their skin?
if the vet says its ok then use it, they're far more qualified than us :)
