Your dog could have allergies. People cough and sneeze when they have allergy problems, pets itch. There is blood testing to determine if this is a problem. The test could tell you what type of things he may be allergic to and hopefully you could help him avoid these things. My shih tzu scratches %26amp; lick all over his body all day long. we tried medicated shampoo etc but does not work.
mine does that everytime we go to bed , she will lick and lick herself and finally stop !! I guess she's cleaning herself ! cause nothing else is wrong with her !!
it's probably allergies. some dogs get them really bad. usually a vet Will give dogs either a cortisone shot or some prednisone to take when it's bad.
i would take your dog to a vet, it can be a sign of a bigger problem.
I'm assuming you are treating him for fleas.

Collars, sprays and powders don't work. Neither do the ';spot on'; treatments at pet stores. Go to a vet and get Advantage.

While you're there have the doctor give you advise.

Change the dogs food. Wheat and corn cause skin problems.
I don't know what to tell you here. I never had this problem or ever knew of this problem with Shih Tzu.. I guess the best bet would seek advice from your vet..They can give him an itch shot. They are better equip to answer your question after they examine your dog. I would try that first.
It could be an allergy problem but only the vet can diagnoze for sure and offer medication.
Do you feed your dog only dog food? dogs show allergies in their skin when fed people food so she could be having a huge allergy problem right now, thats what it sounds like and the more she itches the more chance she has of getting an infection. take her to the vet and they will give her an allergy shot. Or try baby benadryl depending on her size check the dosage, it might help. my vet suggested it.
