In the winter months, i get very dry scalp. I wash my hair with medicated shampoo...?

in cold water and use good conditioners. I use hair products without alcohol. My hair gets so dry it breaks off and it gets really thin on top. I never have the problem in the spring or summer. Any good suggestions? In the winter months, i get very dry scalp. I wash my hair with medicated shampoo...?
First off, medicated shampoos have ingredients in them that help your scalp condition but dry your hair. Alot of products used on the scalp hurt the hair. Alcohol should not be used on your hair because it also dries the hair this is why gels can be damaging over a period of time. And if you are using these two products in the winter you are going to have alot of breakage. Cold dry air, alcohol, and medicated shampoos for the scalp are all drying. Start using deep penetrating conditioners or hair treatments. The conditioners you use are probably only topical. these conditioners only add some moisture, but mainly detangle the hair. Use deep conditioning treatments with a cap on your head and sit under the dryer for 20 min, that should do it. Use them once a week. Try to not shampoo so much, this is also drying and causes hair to break. You are stripping your hair of its natural oils whenever you shampoo, deep conditioning treatments put moisture back in the hair that was lost. You may also need a trim if your hair is that dry. Once you get a split end it continues to the root.In the winter months, i get very dry scalp. I wash my hair with medicated shampoo...?

You could wash it less often, and let the natural oils stay on longer. Air dry as much as you can, avoid overuse the blow dryer.
you use mild shampoo and conditioner. hot oil your hair once or twice a week to prevent it from drying. some hair get really dry when winter, it only means that you have sensitive scalp.
A generous oil application and massage is recommended before washing the hair. Frequent shampooing is harmful for dry hair. Sometimes lack of nutrients can also cause dry brittle hair. Take a multivitamin and mineral supplement on a daily basis. Check out http://solutionsfordryhair.blogspot.com/ for more info.
