Tenia Versicolor & Medicated Shampoos?

For Tenia Versicolor, is there any great difference between using Head %26amp; Shoulders Intensive and Selsun Blue?

People always say to use Selsun Blue, but they both have 1% Selenium Sulfide so I don't see the dif.

Either way the H%26amp;S hasn't helped so perhaps it's actually vitiligo, gah! But would be good to know whether it's worth giving Selsun Blue a go... thanksTenia Versicolor %26amp; Medicated Shampoos?
For tinea versicolor, the selenium sulfide prescribed is usually 2.5%, not 1% like what is in Selsun Blue and Head %26amp; Shoulders. The 2.5% variation is not available in the U.S. over-the-counter, so it's usually prescribed by a medical provider. I think Selsun Blue is thought to be ';preferred'; because it performed better than H%26amp;S when treating dandruff, not TV.

At any rate 70-80% of tinea versicolor is not able to be treated by topical shampoos. I don't know of any direct comparisons between selenium 1% and 2.5%, but I do know that doctors often tell patients to try the over-the-counter 1% variety if it's a mild case. Then if that doesn't work, we'll prescribe either the 2.5% cream or antifungal pills.

In my opinion, there's no reason you shouldn't give the Selsun Blue a try, however, it's very possible you'll have similar results. It might be worth trying that before getting yourself to a doctor to get the 2.5% (and a firm diagnosis?). Maybe at that time you could consider oral antifungal therapy (much more effective, faster, more convenient, but with possible side effects).
